Free Spirit is one of those paintings for me.
From the very beginning, this portrait asked me to trust myself. Every stage—especially her face —whispered the same question: Can you trust your ability enough to keep going, even before you know how it will turn out?
For much of my life, control felt like safety. It was how I survived. But somewhere along my journey, both in life and in art, I began learning a different way of being—one built on trust instead of certainty. This painting became a reflection of that transformation.
Rather than rendering every detail, I allowed areas to remain loose, expressive and abstract. It wasn't simply an artistic decision; it was a personal one. I no longer wanted to control every brushstroke any more than I wanted to control every outcome in my life. I wanted to leave room for intuition, for discovery, and for something greater than myself to have a voice in the process.
Not long after I began painting, I knew there was something different about her. She carried a beauty and presence that felt fresh, almost as though she had emerged from a more evolved part of my creative journey. She embodies everything I find myself drawn towards today: expressive colour, spiritual guidance, freedom, softness, and the beauty that reveals itself when we slow down enough to truly see.
The title Free Spirit isn't just about the woman in the painting. It's about the person I am becoming. Someone who is learning that freedom is found not in controlling life, but in trusting it.
When I look at this piece now, I don't just see a portrait. I see beauty.
I feel full. I feel hopeful for what is still unfolding.
My hope is that whoever welcomes Free Spirit into their home feels a little more like themselves each time they pass by her—more open, more trusting, and more aware of the endless possibilities that await when we allow our own spirit to lead.
